Lorraine, une mère célibataire dépressive, et son fils de 8 ans sont pris en otage dans leur voiture par un homme armé qui vient de braquer une banque. Il a besoin d'eux pour passer la frontière mexicaine et retrouver son butin puis sa liberté. Lancée dans un road-trip angoissant, Lorraine va se battre pour sauver sa vie et celle de son fils : son combat va peu à peu se transformer en une véritable lutte acharnée pour rétablir la justice.
